A collection of what some of Master Yan’s students say about their learning experiences!

  • Being in my 60’s and not wanting to move or feel like it, I began a couple of months ago and am hooked. Listening to Shifu (Master) Yan’s thorough knowledge of the history of his multiple styles is like a Learning Channel special on the history of Chinese martial arts. His patience and teaching style are refreshing, especially his patience. He truly shows his love of what he is doing. I am studying Xingyi to develop internal power and balance (it looks similar to Tai Chi but a greater focus on developing internal power). For the adults, your payments are considered a tax deduction and my accountant was happy to apply all of my dues! Shifu Yan has a gift for sharing the Asian culture as he guides skill development. There is something here for everyone; young and old, male and female.
  • Shifu is a wonderful teacher who is patient and very thorough. I train Xing Yi with him and can say that the “internal” part of the style has been extremely eye opening. There is a depth to inner body mechanics and structural/internal awareness that I am now starting to recognize thanks to Sifu’s training. If you are specifically looking for an internal martial arts teacher, stop looking, this is the place.
  • Dr. Yin, is an extremely extraordinary teacher of this internal martial art. Extremely knowledgeable, in the ancient form of Tai Chi. My experience with Dr. Yin is very good, flexibility in class times excellent. I highly recommend the Watertown Kung Fu Meditation Center, for any studying of this ancient art form.
  • My son and I have had the pleasure of working with Sifu Yin for the last 3 months and I must say, we cannot wait for our lessons each week. We learn so much history as well as ways to continually improve our inner selves. We always leave better than when we arrived.
  • I have been learning Xingyi Kung-fu with Shifu (Teacher) Yin Yan for four months now. I have found him to be patient and encouraging in teaching the exercises and postures while gently pushing me to improve. We also do some meditation work which generates a wonderfully peaceful feeling. As someone who has explored qigong and meditation practices through solitary learning, I can say that having a true master of these arts for guidance is invaluable.
  • I started the art of Tai Chi at the Watertown Meditation Center, not knowing what to expect. What I can tell you is it’s helping me a lot in many different areas. It’s helping my blood flow, no more tingles in my toes, my body doesn’t ache as much anymore, I have better balance and feel much stronger. I would highly recommend the Watertown Meditation Center. Master Yin is a good instructor. I’m excited to keep learning from Master Yin.
  • After we retired, we took a Tai Chi class for the very first time. It’s a form of exercise based on very gentle physical movements and improves balance and helps reduce the risks of fall for older people. It also enhances the circulation. Master Yan is a very knowledgeable, kind and patient instructor. We highly recommend it!
  • I have been studying with Master Yan for just over a month now. Master Yan goes deep with his instruction; not only teaching technique but also the history and philosophy of the art.
  • I have studied Martial Arts for most of my life but more Korean style. I was hesitant to take training again after several years of not practicing. Master Yan has been very knowledgeable on the history, philosophy and techniques of Tai Chi. He is also patient with correcting my other training habits.
  • My Tai Chi experience here is wide and deep. Master Yan is precise, focused and understanding of the level of the student. Never thought I would find such an authentic tradition in this part of the state! It is the full experience. I am a man over 50 with many sports in younger years and scattered martial arts throughout my 30’s. His classes are both challenging and invigorating. After class I am vibrating with energy. Tai Chi is so much more than the beauty we see upon the surface of its movements. Master Yan can convey this in word and in body.
  • It’s an unbelievable stroke of luck that Master Yan has arrived in Watertown to share his love and mastery of the arts. He is the real deal as a martial artist and he loves to teach. He has created a clean, welcoming space to come learn and work out in. I’ve also gotten to watch Master Yan work with kids and been impressed how he meets them where they are while keeping them engaged and gently ensuring that they really learn. This is where to come and really learn Kung Fu, Tai Chi and other arts!
  • Dr. Yan is an amazing teacher both mentally and physically. I have learned key principals in the ancient art of Tai Chi. My one on one classes have had an exceptional impact on my health. I would recommend to both young and old.
  • I moved from NYC to Waterbury CT last year and I was looking around desperately for a Kung Fu center for my 10 year old son. After several months checking places I finally found Watertown Kung Fu Meditation Center and I’m so happy for him. The right place where Sifu Yin Yan takes time to teach kids this beautiful art patiently and professionally. No complaining at all.!👌
  • Empowering environment. My son has been practicing Kung Fu at this center for several months now. From my observations the teacher provides attention to each child and meets them at the level they’re at. He encourages each child to strive and be mindful of themselves. Since the beginning I’ve noticed a big improvement in my son’s level of strength and also behavior. He enjoys coming here.
  • My son started the kung fu class with Sifu Yin Yan for four months now and I noticed the positive progress and transformation. My son loves going to his class. Sifu is a very experienced and respectable Master and I highly recommend him to everyone who wants to learn martial arts.
  • Very Happy with my daughter’s progress! Kung-fu is an amazing martial art and I have tons of respect for this ancient art. My daughter is 12 and has been coming for 2 1/2 months now and has learned a ton from Master Yin! Thank you again for your hard work and patience!
  • This is a great place for learning martial arts, my son is more disciplined since he started coming here the past two months. The master is a great person and knows much how to deal with kids !!🙏🙏👌👌
  • My son has been learning martial arts from Shifu Yin Yan for more than two months now. I’ve seen a lot of improvements in self discipline and confidence in him. Shifu is an experienced martial art teacher and he takes pride in his teaching. I highly recommend this center.
  • This is a great place for the kids to learn disciplined martial arts while fun and intriguing for my 7 year old! And cant forget to shout out the great teacher Master Yan!
  • I have been training with Shifu for about a year, in Tai Chi and Push Hand. I have able to learn and integrate Tai Chi within my life and gained a fantastic way to gain personal perspective and use it as a way to spring board into other areas of my life. I am more confident, calm, and relaxed. Shifu is a wonderful instructor, patient and thorough. I would recommend to anyone.
  • I have been studying with Shifu Yan for one year. I have studied other martial arts for 50 years. Shifu Yan possesses a deep knowledge of many Chinese martial arts. His immense understanding of important skills, techniques and principles comes from the lineage of his teachers. He and his teachers are impressively connected to the origins of these internal Chinese styles. The skills he has taught me have transformed my life. My body has more balance, structural alignment and strength. It is a rare opportunity to study with a Shaolin trained monk. If you want to enhance the quality of your health and the peacefulness in your life, try a class.
  • I have been studying Yiquan with Shifu Yan since more than two years now. He is an extraordinary teacher with broad and deep knowledge and stunning, unique abilities. It’s often said but true in his case: You may look around, but it’s not easy to find somebody like him. His teaching is very profound, trying to heip you to develop yourself as good as possible. Under his guidance I got informations about the art you barely will find somewhere else although I thought myself already being well informed. His teaching goes deep, step by step, oriented on your own development and wellbeing. After a while under his guidance I realised changes within myself I wouldn’t have thought of before. If you are looking for improving your health, for martial or health oriented body work or for getting the key for real self defense, than he is the teacher you are looking for.
  • I’ve been taking Taichi lessons from Shifu Yan for about 10 months now, starting last November. Shifu Yan, who trained in the Shaolin temple, is the best teacher you could ask for. I originally began lessons because of a neck fusion surgery that went wrong, leaving me unable to feel my hands and dealing with extreme weakness in my arms. He has truly helped me so much with stance training, relaxation exercises, the Taichi forms, and meditation. His deep knowledge of Taichi and martial arts, along with his great wisdom, really shows in every lesson. But beyond all that, he’s an incredibly patient and excellent teacher. You can tell he truly cares about his students. I’ve learned so much, not just about Taichi, but also meditation and finding peace within myself. I look forward to every single class and will continue training with Shifu Yan for many years! If you’re considering learning Taichi or just want to connect with someone who knows what they’re talking about, I can’t recommend him enough!
  • I began internal martial arts and meditation training with Shifu Yin Yan, Ph.D. eight months ago, after two decades of making only minimal time for exercise. Shifu has been very skillful in aligning his instruction with my improving physical condition. Having practiced several martial arts in the past, I’ve also been impressed by his extensive knowledge of authentic Chinese martial arts lineages, which are difficult to find in this country … and amazing to practice. Thank you, Shifu!
