Tai Chi

Journey into the serene world of Tai Chi, an ancient practice that embodies the essence of martial arts, meditation, and the profound wisdom of eastern philosophy. Our center invites you to explore the depths of Tai Chi, offering classes that guide you through its graceful movements and tranquil energy.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF TAI CHI

Tai Chi, or Taijiquan, is rooted in the Daoist concept of the “Great Ultimate,” representing the union of yin and yang, the passive and active principles of the universe. It is a physical expression of balance and harmony, where every movement is a dance between opposing forces, leading to a state of dynamic equilibrium.

THE ORIGINS AND EVOLUTION

The origins of Tai Chi are shrouded in mystery and legend. It is often attributed to the Taoist sage Zhang Sanfeng (1247-?), but the earliest documented practice is from Chen Village, Henan province. Over centuries, Tai Chi has evolved into various styles. Most modern styles trace their development to the five traditional schools: Chen, Yang, Wu (Hao), Wu, and Sun.

THE PRACTICE OF TAI CHI

Taiji practice involves a series of continuous, flowing movements that are both meditative and martial. It is a low-impact exercise that can improve flexibility, balance, and strength. Our classes focus on the traditional Yang Style Taichi forms, pushing hands (Tui Shou), providing a comprehensive Tai Chi experience.

HEALTH BENEFITS AND BEYOND

Regular Taiji practice has been associated with numerous health benefits, including stress reduction, improved cardiovascular health, and enhanced mental clarity. Its meditative aspect also promotes a sense of inner peace and mindfulness, making it a holistic approach to well-being.
